Teenage Cancer Trust - Doing our bit to help raise £100,000

When long-standing client Volvo Bus asked us to join them and other stakeholders in their support of the Teenage Cancer Trust Warwickshire Appeal, the team at NC Creative Group we’re only to happy to help. We’ve already started the fundraising, with the Blythe Valley Run Fun already under our belt.

Volvo Bus, based in Warwick, is throwing its weight behind the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) Warwickshire Appeal, which is seeking to raise £100,000 towards a new state of the art teenage cancer unit in the region.

The TCT exists to improve the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer by providing them with specialist care and focusing on providing the quality of life they need and the attitude necessary to combat such a life threatening disease.

The new unit planned at Birmingham Children’s Hospital will care for young people with cancer from across the West Midlands, including Warwickshire, and the charity needs to raise over £1 million in the region to help fund its development.

Volvo Bus has already started their fund raising efforts and will be running a number of activities at and around their presence at next week’s Coach & Bus Live show at the NEC in Birmingham. Other signature events planned for 2010 include an evening of fine dining and music featuring up and coming jazz star Gwyneth Herbert which is being scheduled in March, with a special Golf Day taking place on 13th May.

In addition, a team from the Volvo Bus Executive team will be embarking upon a Coast to Coast challenge in Devon in May 2010, with training on both bike and foot already begun.

Volvo Bus Managing Director Steve Dewhurst said, “It is a staggering statistic that in the last 30 years the incidence of cancer in the teenage and young adult group has increased by 50%, and that more teens than children are being diagnosed with cancer.”

TCT’s Regional Appeals Manager for the West Midlands Paula Hancox said, “Teenage Cancer Trust units aren’t like ordinary wards – everything about them has been designed to give teenagers the very best chance of a positive outcome. We want every young person in the West Midlands to have that chance.”

The NC Creative Group is proud to be supporting this campaign, with our first fund raising outing at the Blythe Valley Fun Run at Blythe Valley Business Park on Sunday 13th September.

We fielded five team members this year (this is the fourth year we have competed) and our very own “pace ace” Ginny as ever led from the front, crossing the line first in a very creditable 28 and a half minutes, followed by Richard and Helena, Åsa and 10 year old daughter Scarlett. Special mention goes to Scarlett who, not only was one of the youngest competitors in the run, but who also raised over £150 in sponsorship alone.
